There are a billion and a half blog posts about engagement photos; they tell you why you should get them, where and when you should get them, and what you should wear.

For me and the couples I work with, I ask a few simple questions:

• What location is special to the two of you?
• What do you feel most comfortable wearing?
• Do you want these to be a part of your “Save The Dates”?
• Do you want your dog to a part of your session?

For Morgane and Shea’s session, we walked the street on which they met and fell in love (see above).

Above all else, I ensure that taking these portraits will NOT be akin to a visit to the dentist. Many people are concerned about posing for portraits, and I guarantee the removal of all discomfort by keeping the focus between the couple, effectively disappearing myself from the equation.

As an active member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), I am often awarded for excellence in pre-wedding portraits. This past month, three engagement images were chose for the prestigious Diamond Award, something I take seriously and for which I feel an enormous amount of pride!
